Senior Accountant II - Technical Accounting

Job Description

Position Overview

As a Senior Accountant II, Technical Accounting, you will support the research, application, and implementation of technical accounting matters across Invenergy's accounting organization. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical Accounting, this role is responsible for analyzing complex accounting transactions, preparing technical accounting documentation, and assisting with the implementation of accounting policies and new accounting standards.

This position is ideal for an accounting professional with a strong technical foundation, attention to detail, and a desire to develop expertise in complex accounting topics within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

Technical Accounting

• Review contracts, agreements, and transactions to identify accounting implications and disclosure requirements
• Research technical accounting matters and prepare accounting memoranda supporting accounting conclusions under U.S. GAAP
• Own the accounting and reporting for the Company's lease portfolio, including performing technical accounting assessments under ASC 842, maintaining the lease accounting system and related processes, and executing key controls to ensure the completeness and accuracy of lease accounting and financial reporting
• Manage the accounting and reporting for derivative instruments, including hedge designations and documentation, coordination with third-party valuation providers, preparation of accounting analyses and journal entries, and execution of related controls to ensure compliance with ASC 815 and accurate financial reporting
• Support the implementation of new accounting standards, accounting policies, and accounting methodologies
• Proactively partner with stakeholders across Accounting, Tax, Finance, Legal, and Operations to identify emerging transactions, gather relevant information, assess accounting implications, and drive issues to timely resolution.
• Support external audit requests by preparing analyses and documentation related to technical accounting matters
• Contribute to the development and enhancement of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Participate in special projects and transactions requiring technical accounting analysis and implementation

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• 4+ years of accounting experience, including experience in public accounting, financial reporting, technical accounting, or a combination thereof
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principles
• Experience researching accounting guidance and preparing accounting analyses or position papers
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex accounting issues
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical accounting concepts to both accounting and non-accounting audiences
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability, with a proven ability to identify issues, ask thoughtful questions, and drive projects and accounting analyses to timely completion.
• Demonstrated ability to operate independently, proactively obtain information from stakeholders, and advance complex accounting issues with minimal oversight.
• Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA license preferred
• Experience with derivatives, renewable energy tax credits, or other complex accounting areas
• Experience in the energy industry or with complex project-based accounting environments
• Experience preparing technical accounting memoranda and supporting external audits

Base Pay

$105,000.00 - $122,000.00 USD Annual

Bonus: 20% - 30%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
