**Job Summary**

The Lead Accounting Analyst, Fuel & Settlements Accounting, provides oversight and approval of all settlement activities performed by Duke Energy's managed service provider, EY, ensuring quality, effective controls, and operational execution. The role is responsible for overseeing and approving fuel invoices, margin calls, and other settlement activities, and will also support the Fuel Inventory team through the review of monthly journal entries, reporting, and reconciliations. This position partners closely with stakeholders across the Controller's organization, Fuels & Systems Optimization, and Electric Rates & Regulatory to ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective business execution. The successful candidate demonstrates strong leadership, initiative, attention to detail, and sound judgment.

This is the fifth level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy. Progression to this level is typically restricted on the basis of business need. Employees at this level solve complex problems and interpret internal or external business issues and recommend solutions. Incumbents provide leadership (advising and providing direction) to others in financial areas of specialization and may coordinate daily work activities or review the work of other teammates. Employee may also regularly lead projects. Employee works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. Incumbent has specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise.

**Responsibilities**

• Provide oversight, review, and approval of approximately 300 fuel settlements per month
• Support Fuel Inventory month-end close, reporting, SOX testing, and audit requests
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, regulatory requirements, and financial governance standards.
• Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness across accounting and reporting activities.
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with internal business partners, external auditors, regulatory stakeholders, and managed service provider.
• Support regulatory recovery efforts, fuel audits, and related compliance activities.

**Basic / Required Qualifications**

• Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline
• Five (5) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
• Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
• Experience with financial systems and applications, such as PeopleSoft, OneStream, or similar platforms.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

**Preferred Qualifications**

• Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting
• Eight (8) years or more of professional work-related experience
• Regulatory experience
• Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to pertinent business and accounting issues
• Effective interpersonal skills, team oriented
• Detail oriented, outstanding organizational skills
• History of high-quality work in an accounting environment dealing with rigorous reporting and closing deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to drive process efficiency improvements
• Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel at an advanced level
• Familiarity with FERC chart of accounts
• Extensive experience with accounting systems/applications

**Additional Preferred Qualifications**

• Proficient using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and Power Point
• Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft FMIS, Power Plant, etc.) and query tool (Business Objects)
• Master's in Accounting or MBA
• CPA, CIA, MBA, CFA or CMA is strongly encouraged for achieving the Lead Analyst or higher position.

**Specific Requirements**

• Must have 5+ years (8+ desired) of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
• Years of prior equivalent work-related experience in lieu of a degree is N/A unless grandfathered in and requires CFO Staff approval.

**Working Conditions**

• Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees must live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility, not greater than 50 miles one way. Employees are expected to report to their assigned Duke Energy facility as required and directed by their manager, on average 3 full workdays per regular workweek.
