The Engineer I position is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer I position solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. An Engineer I is expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer I has knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures.

This position supports modeling activities within Distribution SCADA and Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) applications that enable real-time monitoring, analysis, and control of the electric distribution grid for Distribution Control Center operations. The role requires a foundational understanding of electric distribution systems and the ability to develop and maintain scripts and programs (e.g., Python, PowerShell, PERL, C#).  The role includes creating, maintaining, validating, and testing data models with various tools in various formats that represent and simulate Duke’s electric distribution grid.  The role also includes creating and maintaining graphical UI content presented to the Distribution Control Center operators on the DSCADA and ADMS systems.
